Although it has a rural structure the county is quite important for traffic in the EU: Two federal highways, two big sea lanes, one important railroad an the airports of Saarbrücken, Hahn and Luxemburg connect the region to the european traffic system. the "goldene diadem" of a celtic princess show our long tradition. Today our area in the heart of Europe is known as the "Äppelkescht" (apple box) - that's why we had a very famous juice factory here, too. Also the "Viezstraße" is close. On the for our landscape typical hayfields ripen the fruits for the sweet or dry apple wine. In many villages you can still find small family enterprises which produce apple wine (Viez) and typical pastries and sausages and offer them to the thirsty biker. |
