Two health resorts (in Mettlach-Orscholz and Weiskirchen) underline the quality of the region as recreational area. Worth to be mentioned is the great landscape at the "Saarschleife" (a huge river loop), the most beautiful landmark of the Saarland, which is at very close distance. The borderline triangle Germany/France/Luxemburg is known for its nice inhabitants, its extraordinary cuisine,

 Merzig is worldwide known as

of the Saarland. With a size of 554 sqkm it is the biggest county of the federal state. Circa 105.000 people live in the two towns Merzig and Wadern an in the 5 boroghs Perl, Mettlach, Weiskirchen, Losheim and Beckingen.

its interesting history as a permanent aple of discord between the different powers and for its cultural diversity.
Already the Celts and Romans knew, why they settled right here
. Celtic and roman artefacts like the"bronze taurus " and

Besseringen, a subburb of Merzig, the "Town of Wolfes", is settled directly at the Saarschleife, the most famous landmark of the Saarland.
Since 1998 the subburb is a "
governmantally certified recreational area".

Although it has a rural structure the county is quite important for traffic in the EU: Two federal highways, two big sea lanes, one important railroad an the airports of Saarbrücken, Hahn and Luxemburg connect the region to the european traffic system.

That's why it's no problem to have brakfast in Germany, lunch in France and supper in Luxemburg.

the "goldene diadem" of a celtic princess show our long tradition. Today our area in the heart of Europe is known as the "Äppelkescht" (apple box) - that's why we had a very famous juice factory here, too. Also the "Viezstraße" is close. On the for our landscape typical hayfields ripen the fruits for the sweet or dry apple wine. In many villages you can still find small family enterprises which produce apple wine (Viez) and typical pastries and sausages and offer them  to the thirsty biker.
